Lend Me a Hand
from Terri
Hailing From: Louisville, Kentucky
Where it Happened: Louisville, Kentucky

When I was 12 years old, my sister and her husband moved into a house with their 2 year old daughter. The owners had moved due to the fact that their teen age daughters best friend was missing and they thought it would do her good to have a new start.

I remember the day they moved in, I stayed at home but my mom went to help them unpack and the such. Later that day when my mom came home she looked flushed and pale at the same time, if you can imagine that. She acted very strange, but it was summertime and I just thought she was overheated from the work.

After a few weeks, I noticed that my sister and the baby were always at our house when her husband worked. Being only 12, I loved it at first, but after a while having a little one around was getting to me.

Also, my mom was often asking me to spend time with them at their house, and I didn't like being there. I often felt uncomfortable when I was at their place, but was sure if I said anything they would think I was just "being a kid with an active imagination."

I would go down in the basement and my niece would say to someone "come on lady" and it just made me shake! I would run up the stairs and was scared to look back down. I felt the hair on my neck stand up all the time when I was in the basement.

One night, I was staying in my nieces room, and I woke up and there was a girl sitting on my bed. I wasn't scared at the time, just curious. She got up and walked down the hall and I followed her. She was dressed in a white flowing dress and held her arms out to the side as if wanting to hug you, except I noticed that one of her hands were missing!

Then she walked into the living room and just promptly evaporated!

The next time I saw her, I was in the basement with my niece who was once again saying "come on lady," which we now had become accustomed to because she said it all the time!!! As I turned to help her up the steps (remember, I never looked back down the steps) there stood the girl just as I remembered her, except she was holding her arms up as if to plead, "Help me!"

I grabbed my niece and jerked her up the stairs -- and I told my sis, "I'm going home NOW!" -- which I think she knew.

When I got home, my mom met me at the door and she said she had talked to my sis. She then said she needed to talk to me. She related that she had heard something on the day my sis had moved in -- she said she was in the hall and heard someone unpacking and going through boxes in the bedroom, thinking it was my sister, she went in and saw the girl there, which made her decide to come home -- and that is why she looked so frazzled.

She said my sister often saw this girl in the house, but most often in the basement. Come to find out, the ghost we were seeing was the best friend of the owners daughter who had gone missing, and they had yet to find her. They had made the decision to move because they kept seeing this girl and hoped it was just because she was supposed to go there (come to stay the night at their house with their daughter) the night she was abducted.

Late in the year, they did find the girls body. She had been hacked to death with a machete over a drug deal, and when they found her, they recovered all body parts -- all but one hand!

My sister lived there for about two years, and became less afraid after they found the girl. The girl was just 17!

To this day, the people who move in and out of the rental property don't stay because they say it is haunted. This is a true story and the murder occurred in the 1970's in this town -- and this is all I can really say because the family of the girl is still here and I would hate to cause them any more pain.

Thanks for the story, Terri. I wonder if the little girls wanderings were in search of the rest of her body, or to find someone to help her find her way "home." Either way, I am sure she was looking through to our side for the help that she needed.
