Yes, this site is exactly like a maze . . .
Like a huge mansion with 1000 rooms,
Kinda easy to get lost in this big ol' spooky place . . .
Hey, any chance you brought a flashlight?

Wet and Winding Road

Hi everyone, Keno here. I'm still on the planet while life's been busy reshaping my dreams and toying with my libido. Still I marvel at the past several years. Most of this journey has been beyond good, and I travel through life wondering with excited anticipation of what each new day will sail across my pathway.

Have dreams come true? I think so. No, scratch that, I know so.

I miss commenting on the stories and writing seemingly poetic mantras, but with the work load and my new ventures, it isn't easy to balance a free-wheeling life style with the demands of making a living. It's the same old story, income versus passion, but I'm happy to say I've seen a few intersections in those two elusive elements over time and over luck. Still, the writer continues to exist in my soul and sometimes sends clear messages he wants to be let out to play once again. Maybe it's a new day for that crafty old word gnome. You never know, do you, what each new chapter brings?

Here is a story a long time friend sent me, hope you enjoy it. And, Happy Halloween 2007! Have a good time, stay safe and enjoy.

. . . . . . . . . .

This happened in Brisbane and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it's true.

John Bradford, a Sydney University student, was hitch hiking on a very dark night and in a very heavy rainstorm. No cars went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him.

Suddenly he saw something slowly coming up behind him. It was so difficult to see anything, that he didn't realize it was a car until it was right next to him. Gratefully, he jumped inside, and pulled the door shut. It wasn't until the car began moving again that he realized there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't running.

The car rolled slowly along. John fearfully looked at the road ahead and saw a sharp bend looming up. He started to pray, begging for his life. The rain was coming even harder now. Zero visibility and the car was picking up speed. His prayers were answered. Just before the curve, a hand appeared through the open window and turned the wheel.

John kept praying and, paralyzed with terror, saw how the helping hand would reappear whenever the car came to a curve.

Finally the car began to slow down. John could barely make out the lights of a pub ahead. Shivering with fright about his experience, he jumped out and ran into the pub.

Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and asked for two shots of tequila. He then started telling everybody about the ghostly events he had just gone through. The pub went totally silent as everybody realized he was crying yet he certainly wasn't drunk.

Then two men walked into the pub. They were also very wet and exhausted. Looking around and seeing John sobbing at the bar, one said to the other, 'Look, Bruce, there's the bloody idiot who got in the car while we were pushing it.'

Have Your Cake,
and Dream It Too!

Many thanks for this next great submittal from Marsha B. of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada:

When I was 8 or 9, I went to a wedding and received a piece of wedding cake. My Mom told me to put it under my pillow and I would dream of the man I would marry -- and so i did ....

I slept on it for about 2 months, and almost every night dreamt of a man. I knew his every feature because I would dream of him so often. I really never believed any of this, I recognized that it was something I had conjured out of my imagination.

When I was 31, I moved with my fiancee to New Brunswick, his hometown. When we arrived there, I went to his parents house for the first time and we stayed for the first couple of weeks.

(Side note: My husband-to-be and I met through friends and family while camping at Stave Lake in Maple Ridge, B.C., on July 31, 1997. It was a get together that my brother had planned in memory of our cousin, Cory, who had died in a car accident one month before. The camping trip was planned on that day because it was Cory's birthday. I was very close to my cousin Cory. Whether this has any relevance, I don't know, but I have always wondered.)

One night I went upstairs in their spare room with his Mom to see some of her Halloween decorations, on the wall was a picture of the "man" from my dreams ... my 9 year old girl dreams! My knees turned to jello and I had to sit down, I didn't recognize the person in the picture as anyone but the "man" at first, so I had to ask who it was ...

It was my fiancee's graduation picture!

I cannot find a way to explain this to myself, it just does not make any sense. My fiancee is 5 years younger than I am and did not leave New Brunswick until he was well into his twenties. I was raised in British Columbia, 6000 miles and almost full continent away.

I had never been to New Brunswick, not before we moved there! How is this possible???

----------

To refresh our readers on Canadian Geography, here's a handy map ... as you can see, this couple couldn't have grown up further apart!
