Where it Happened: My Relative's House
I t was the night before my grandmother died.
I was staying at a relatives house that evening and the mattress I was sleeping on was out in the hall. I felt so small and everything around me appeared so big. All the bedroom doors were closed so I felt awfully isolated and frankly, it gave me the creeps being out in that hall all alone while everyone else was sleeping peacefully in the rooms that surrounded me.Being only 12 years old, everyone thought that what happened next was just my imagination or an awful dream I had encountered. But I know that it was terribly real.
I opened up my eyes from trying desperately to get some sleep when I saw, standing above me, a blurry figure dressed in a long flannel white nightgown. The figure had short grey hair and large glasses.
I knew at that moment the apparition staring down at me was my grandmother.
She extended her arm out to me and I attempted to speak to her. I asked her many questions, now that are long forgotten, and she didn't answer any of them. She just stood there, her sad, frightened eyes gazing down at me lovingly and her arm reaching towards me for help of some sort.
Then she disappeared.
I was very shaken up by this and the next morning, when I heard she had died, I cried knowing that she had came to me first to tell me the news.
Hey Pam, thanks. That was way cool. I wish, a million times, that I could have had that experience with my dad who passed away last year. It would have been great. Even better, I wish I could have that one with my grandmother, she was tops! I can't even imagine what I would have said to her, but it wouldn't have mattered. Whatever I would have said would have been perfect ... something for the soul, I am sure, as yours was.
