Sam I am...

Mom's House

Our family used to have a dog named Sam.  She was a Red
Queensland Heeler that we had since I was about 6 or 7.  About the time I
was 18, the dog was diagnosed with diabetes and had to take insulin.  She
was pretty old now for a dog, but we didn't mind giving her the shots,
since it was the first dog I remember ever owning.

Well one day I was getting ready for school and Sam came and sat next to
me with her favorite toy (it was a green pig from the old game Pig Pong,
if any of you remember that game).  She had lost alot of weight and did
not look good, in fact she looked miserable.

She looked up at me and I could tell in her eyes that she wouldn't outlast the week. So I called my mom up and told her I thought it was time to put her to sleep. So she came home and we loaded her up in the car on my lap and we drove down to the vet, all the while I am crying (kind of sad for an 18 yr old to do that but I did).

When we got to the vet he said there was nothing he could do
but put her to sleep so I went and got the check book out of the car and
they did it while I was outside, thank goodness!  When we came home my mom
and I went around the house and picked up all of her toys and stuff and
threw it away, then sealed up the dog door.  The last toy I found was her
favorite "pig".  It was very emotional, but I threw that away outside as
well.

My mom left for work again, and I was alone.  I was in my room crying and
after a while I stopped and decided to give my sister's the bad news by
calling them.

When I opened my door,
my dog's favorite toy was sitting there right in
front of me!  I KNOW I threw it away!  And the dog door cover was lying on
the ground next to the door.  I was the only one in the house at the time,
so I know no one else could have done it.  Needless to say, I was
speechless!

I always doubted that animals didn't have souls, but now I am positive that
they do.  Even now, when my sister brings her dogs over, they can sense
Sam and often stare at places in the house where she liked to lounge
around.  I am glad to know that she will always be there with us.

What a great ghostly encounter!  I really enjoyed this one!  I admit though, if I think about it too much it is kind of creepy...

This would of happened before I was married in about 1983.  I have always believed in ghosts and spirits since I was a child.

My former husband had always told me that his mother used to come and visit him.  ( I never met his mother because she had died when he was a teenager). I always knew that she was around, because I felt her presence at night.

This one night we were in bed, (we always had the radio on).  This one night a song came on the radio called "That's Alright Mama" by Elvis.  Then I felt a hand touch my shoulder, thinking that it was my future husband I tried to roll over and ask him what he wanted but this hand would not let me roll over.

I thought that this was very unusual.  I did not feel afraid and I lay there I looked up and saw a figure standing at the bottom of the bed then it disappeared through the door.  I lay there thinking about what I saw and then I woke my future husband up, and said "I think I just met your mother."

His response was "I know."

Thank you for letting me share my story as I have enjoyed
reading everyone else's. Actually, I wouldn't believe in ghosts and still
really don't - except it happened to me!

When I was about 9 we moved to Berkeley, CA after my older sister
Claudia died of cancer (we had been living in Lancaster,  CA). We moved to
a new tract house which sat next to a creek and in front of an older
Victorian home. The man that rented the house we lived in lived in the
Victorian.

Anyway, I don't know how long we had been living in our new home but I
do remember that I was asleep in my bedroom and that I suddenly woke up.
An old man was standing next to my bed looking at me. Folks, all I can
tell you some decades later (I am 43 years old now) is that this man was
SOLID FLESH AND BLOOD. He was as solid and real as solid and real can get.

He didn't seem evil or menacing. I don't remember what he was wearing
either. I just remember looking at a real live man standing next to my bad
and deciding that screaming my head off in terror was the thing to do at
that moment. So I screamed and screamed and screamed. My dad ran into the
room and ran to me. He leaned over to hug me. MY FATHER LEANED RIGHT
THROUGH THE MAN. At that point, I was solidly and really in the biggest
state of terror I have ever experienced (may I also say that I was for
years in law enforcement and have been in alot of danger).
Nothing
compares to the feeling of terror that I experienced seeing my father lean
through this man.

At that point I had thought this man was real. All I can say is that I
was awake for a few minutes during this entire experience and remember it
so vividly all these years later, that when my parents maintain I was
dreaming, to this day I know that I wasn't. Anyway, I instinctively told
my father to turn on the bedroom light. He ran across the room to turn on
the light (and the man was STILL there). He turned on the light and then
the man disappeared. At this point in my life I am still completely
fascinated with the experience. I am sorry to say that I think I would
read all of these other stories and think the people were lying if it
hadn't have happened to me.

An update to this story: A couple weeks ago I finally met the owners of
this small house where I saw the ghost. They live in the larger Victorian
home in the back. I met the son and grandson of the original man that we
rented the house from. The father and son (and the son's family) live in
the Victorian and rent out the house we used to live in to some elderly
ladies.

We discussed who had been the original owner of the house, as I thought it
had been his family. He told me that he thought it was originally owned by
a man named "Rucker". After this meeting I went to the library and looked
up some old phone books but could only trace the name Rucker to have been
living in the house to 1939.

With much embarrassment and trepidation, I told the man and son of my
experience. Much to my utter shock, the man told me that he had seen a
ghost around the place too! He explained that when he was in his 20s, he
was standing in the kitchen of the Victorian and he saw a man walking down
the driveway, past the kitchen window, headed towards the backyard. He ran
outside to see why the man was going into his backyard. When he got to the
backyard he saw his parents sitting there and he asked them where the man
went. They had not seen anyone!

He said there was no other exit or way the man could have gone and he had
come out of the house immediately after seeing the man.

He said the man didn't seem to match my ghost's description as his "ghost"
seemed younger.

The father told me he didn't believe that I had seen a ghost and he didn't
believe he did either!

I am now starting to wonder if both of us have met the original owner and
perhaps at different ages???

If anyone would like to write me for more details or to share experiences,
you are more than welcome. Thank you.

We've placed Stacey's e-mail address here with her permission.  If she sends a follow up or photo (hint hint) we will post  it upon receipt!  As to the story, it's great.. perhaps the apparition was the same person at different points in time...  We especially enjoyed that Stacey did some detective work and researched the home and it's history... wonderful and Kudos! ! !

Have you ever lain awake at night, unable to sleep?  Have you ever wondered if there was someone or... something hiding under the bed or in the closet?  This next story brings those childhood fears to life... go on, dear reader... but leave the light on...

The Creeper...

Well it all started when I invited my best friend to spend the
night at my house while my parents went out with some friends.

She came over at around 8:30 p.m. I live in a very small  town and my house is VERY, VERY old. We started watching TV.  We got sleepy after  a while, so we  decided to turn my TV off.

We started talking about all our problems concerning guys, friends, family, etc. After 2 or 3 hours of talking we got really sleepy so we went to bed.

After a while she woke me up saying she was hearing noises and I said it was probably our neighbors, since our house and their house was connected. Then I couldn't sleep because I also heard them. We kept on talking then suddenly she saw somebody crawling on the floor. She asked me if that was my brother.

I couldn't see because I was laying down. I decided to sit up straight and sure enough I saw a black shadow crawling on my floor.  I thought it was my brother
so I got off the bed and was about to yell at him for scaring us when I saw
that it wasn't him.

I was  about halfway across my room when the shadow disappeared. I yelled really loud and hopped on the bed. In the morning I told my parent but they didn't believe us.

Now me and my friend are 20 yrs old but we still remember that frightening night.

I really enjoyed that one!  It's strange how some of the scariest encounters take place when we least expect them!  The idea of an inky black "thing" creeping up on my bed while I was asleep in it would keep me awake more than one night!  Did it ever return?  Let us know if you have any follow up information on the house or the previous tenants.

Sometimes animals see what we don't, hear what we can't,  and expect us to know what to do when confronted with the unexplainable...

In 1993, my mother remarried and moved my brother and me from our pleasant, comfortable ranch house into my stepfather's ugly, one-hundred and fifty year-old pile of bricks.  We were happy for our mother but perturbed about having to share rooms with our younger step-siblings.

Our things immediately began to disappear, which we attributed to the pilfering of the other kids.  Our dog would chase unseen beings from room to room, barking and growling, but again, he was a little nuts anyway.

Then the day came where I was off work and blissfully alone in the house.  I decided to abandon the TV show I was watching in favor of reading Stephen King in the bedroom.  It wasn't long before I heard the door open and the TV come on at full volume,
but when I went to go say hello, there was no one there, despite the fact the door was wide open and the TV on.

I didn't actually see anything until I had moved out and gotten married.  I was hanging out with my mom one day, sitting on the love seat with the dog.  The dog began to shiver and tried to crawl into my lap, and a minute later
I felt someone put their arm around me.  There was no one within ten feet of me, yet the sensation seemed to last for minutes.  Finally, the arm left me, and seconds later I saw the black form of a man wearing an old-fashioned cowboy hat go in between the loveseat and the entertainment center.

Now that I wouldn't mind seeing a ghost, it seems my chances are gone.  With us four kids gone, the house is peaceful.

Sounds like you had a close encounter with a cowboy who hadn't yet traveled down the trail of tears!  Did any of your siblings or step-siblings hear or see anything out of the ordinary while living there?  Let us know if you compare notes and find out anything.  Perhaps the ghost didn't have a hankerin' for kids and the noise they made.
