Just Visiting...

Before I tell you this story,  I just want to say that it is
true.  It was weird what happened.  Not so much scary.

It all started when my parents, my aunt,  and my cousin were
visiting my Grandmother at her house while she had cancer.  We were
talking about my grandmother's parents one evening.  She said that they
always come and visit her in spirit.

Her cancer began spreading, so she couldn't move or talk very much.  I was in the guest bedroom with the light off and the door open so I could see what was going on with everyone.  All they were doing was watching TV.  I was doing the same thing.

As I was watching, something tempted me to look out into the hall. I looked and a ghost of some type floated into the room! Being 11 I was pretty freaked out.  I ran out and told my mom.  Surprisingly she believed me.  At the time I wasn't sure who or what it was.  But now I believe it was one of my Grand mothers parents.

The following week my Grandma died God rest her soul.  I am 15 now and I always think of my Grandmother.  I know this wasn't scary and I'm sorry if you didn't like it.  But if you did thank you so much for your time.

Maybe not the scariest ghostly encounter of all time, but touching no doubt!  Often times those dying have reported being visited by those who have gone before them.  It is less often that those in good health see these visiting shades as well... What a comfort knowing that your grandmother was well received on the other side.

Many moons ago when I was 11 years old, we lived in an area of Santa Barbara
that was prone to shake ups by earthquakes quite often.

Many nights I woke thinking my brother was shaking my bed and disturbing
my slumber like he would do sometimes just to be the pesty older brother.

"Stop it" I sleepily crooned...."leave me alone" and  then whining the ever popular childhood phrase "I'm telling mom!"

But as I peeped over my pillow from my comfortable belly flop position I saw that he was asleep still. I assumed that it was again, a regular tremor.

Then as I started to drift off to sleep again, rolling over and stretching my arms out and up I felt something touch my bangs across my forehead and trying to move them out of my eyes.

For some reason I wasn't scared, I didn't jump for fright or scream.  Instead I looked to see where this sweet feeling I suddenly felt was coming from.

A tall dark thin man sat on the edge of my bed. He spoke softly
"I just came to say good-bye, I didn't mean to wake you up". Then a rush of recognition came over me, it was my father whom I hadn't seen since I was a small child.

"Where are you going?" I dreamily replied and he responded with "Somewhere, where I will no longer be in pain".

I knew my father was ill, but at the time I didn't know it was from cirrhosis of the liver, the drink, the alcoholism and manic depression that ate his life away and separated our family forever. The last I heard about him he was very ill in the hospital and then had to have a nurse care for him at his home, but we were unable to go see him.

"I just wanted to tell you that I have always loved you, no matter what you think and I always will", again he touched my bangs which felt like a butterfly fluttering above my head. I will never forget that feeling.

There was a sadness but at the same time I felt such a joy to be with him. I had waited so many days, hours, months to know him.

"I know" I replied. Somehow I guess I always wanted to know but didn't and
was glad to hear it from him. It was my mother who always kept us from seeing him....she had her reasons, but back then it's hard for a child to understand why her daddy isn't with them.

"I will keep my eye on you and I will be there if you ever need me" he stated so matter-of-factly.

"Something told me that you needed to see me and I really wanted to see you" "I have to go now-go back to sleep okay?" There were so many things that I wanted to say...I wanted to leap into his long arms and hug his face, but good-night was all that came out...he whispered good-night back and slowly walked towards the corner of the room where he faded and then was gone.

I drifted off to sleep, somehow feeling very soft, warm and comforted.

Morning came with a phone ringing and I could hear my mom's voice crack,
lower then raise and lower and soon the call ended.

As I tottered sleepily into the living room she told me to sit down that she wanted to talk to me. Before she spoke I looked at her sad eyes and I told her that I had to say good-bye to my dad last night, that he had died.

Her mouth fell to the floor and asked me how I knew that. I told her of the events the night before and soon we were both crying as she had a dream that she was drowning and he was reaching down to save her.

We both awoke to the ringing phone which brought us the news that he had in fact died the night before.

I am now in my forties and have recently been found by my father's daughter
from his earlier marriage, before my mother. She is a beautiful soul and has sent me the old tattered picture that my dad carried with him in his wallet for all of the years we were apart.

She told me of how much he loved and missed being with us and how she had
been searching for us for 30 some years.

She believes the visit I had was real too with 'our' father and I await the day when I can hug her about the neck and see his eyes in her.

Thanks for a touching encounter C.J. !  A great story that shows no matter what the love of a parent can communicate across space and time.

Okay... Admit it... Sometimes when your all alone, haven't you ever turned the television to channel one?  Just to see if you hear anything ~ poltergeist style?  "They're baaaaccckkkk".

Ok here goes.  First some history on my house and the events
that could have lead up to this happening.

The house I grew up in back in Buffalo is just over 100 years old now, so who knows what has gone on in that house since it was built. My father died in his sleep in that house in 1982 at the age of 32. Also, my first stepfather and his best friend went out tubing on a very swollen and fast river one night in 1991 and they both drowned.

Flash to the future, a few years ago.  My 2nd stepfather is going through
chemo-therapy for his cancer, unable to work so he spends most of his day
sleeping or on the couch watching TV.  My mother is working her 9-5 job.

Myself and my younger sister and brother are both at school.  My
stepfather, who's name is Jerome, is home all alone.  My mother was hooked
on daytime drama shows, so she taped them all while she is at work.  My
stepfather watches them while they are on because there is nothing better
to watch.

He told us what happened,
then I saw the proof for myself.  He said that he
was laying in the couch watching TV and he heard what sounded like some
people talking outside in the driveway next door.  But the more he heard,
the more he felt it didn't sound like someone talking at a normal tone of
voice outside, but more like someone talking really quiet in the house.

He knew the history of the house, so he cut right to the chase and said
"if there is anyone else in this house besides me, give me a sign".  He
told us he got is sign.  We asked what it was and he said he'd show us!

Now, the weather up there in Buffalo was very bad, snow storms and such so
all day the network that plays the soaps would have a crawler on the
bottom of the screen advising about the bad weather.  My stepfather
rewound the tape that was recording all day.  So right after he said "if
there is anyone else in this house besides me, give me a sign" a crawler
went across the bottom of the screen, and at the end of it, in large all
capitalized letters it said "JEROME!!!!!".

We called the TV network, they had no idea what it was, they didn't see it.  We called everyone in the area that was home during the day and they didn't see it on their TV.

Wow, that would definitely be a keeper!  Now  the super cool thing would be if you could capture a screen shot of that so we can post it alongside your story!  It makes sense though, if spirits are made up of energy, that they could perhaps channel it thru a medium like television, radio, telephones and the like.  Lucky for Jerome, it merely spelled his name.. Can you imagine if it had spelled;  GET OUT ! ! !
